Empedocles
World explanation
Earth, air, water and fire can neither be created nor destroyed but their proportion in objects changes constantly.
He thinks that change occurs because the material objects are made from also changes
What generates the change: objects come together and fall apart due to the influence of love and strife (the two forces of the Cosmos, referring to the forces of attraction and repulsion).
Even though these 4 roots don't change, they do intermingle in order to create organisms. They separate when organisms die.
The Cosmic stages (the rule of love, the advance of strife, the rule of strife, the advance of love) - the Eternal Cosmic cycle
Love - compels individuals to intermingle and behave virtuously.
Strife - compels individuals to behave destructively.
