Many social determents of health affect Canadian immigrant women's access for support to domestic violence. Many Canadian immigrant women hold collectivist values, and they might put group cohesion (or keeping the family together) as a priority instead of their own needs (Ahmad et al., 2009; Ashbourne & Baobaid, 2019). Additionally, they might not want to reach out for help because they are worried about institutional racism or discrimination they might face in the Canadian social and legal systems (Okeke-Ihejirika et al., 2020). Finally, they might be concerned that the social systems might not be aware or educated about the vast oppressions they face as immigrants (Guruge & Humphreys, 2009).
