How the arche is understood
There can be no "parts" to Being because division would require a separation, which would involve non-being
Being is ethernal, without beginning or end and its complete and perfect.
Any form of change implies the existence of "non-being," which Parmenides denies.
Only reason, not the senses, can reveal the eternal and unchanging nature of true reality.
For Parmenides, the arché is not a physical element like water (Thales) or air (Anaximenes), but an unchanging, eternal, and indivisible reality he calls "Being."
World Explanation
Parmenides separates the world into two levels: the true reality, which is eternal and unchanging, and the world of appearances, which is what we experience through our senses.
True reality can only be understood by following the "path of truth," which relies on reason and logical thinking. This path reveals that only Being exists, and all other experiences are false. :
Most people follow the "path of opinion," which is based on sensory experience. This path leads to a false belief in change, plurality, and motion, all of which are illusions.
Parmenides claims that thinking and being are the same; we can only think about what truly exists. If something does not exist (non-being), it cannot even be thought about or named
