Balancing Connection and Self-Care: Building Trust and Prioritising…
Balancing Connection and Self-Care:
Building Trust and Prioritising Wellbeing
Managing Noise and Daily Busyness:
The overwhelming noise and busyness of everyday life often lead to missed follow-ups, not from lack of desire but due to a perceived lack of time and mental space.
AI tools like ChatGPT can potentially reduce this burden by summarizing and organizing information, though they can also add to the noise if not used purposefully.
Importance of Trust and Meaningful Connections:
Building trust is crucial to creating relationships where individuals feel safe to share and vent without judgment or expectation of feedback.
Networking opportunities that allow time and space to get to know people are highly valuable. Such opportunities are even more essential if we are not creating space outside them for fostering relationships and trust.
Spending time with trusted individuals helps boost energy and emotional well-being.
Progress on Wellbeing Commitments:
Participants reflected on their progress with commitments made the previous week:
Howard went outside in daylight twice but continued morning runs in the dark, maintaining his fitness routine.
Lisa adopted an earlier bedtime routine for herself and her family, experiencing improved well-being.
Graham successfully accomplished the four tasks he set out for himself and shared his achievements.
Gemma also embraced an earlier bedtime and felt better but hadn’t made other changes to her routine.
Kathy spent time outdoors five out of seven days, avoided sugar and alcohol for two days, and allowed herself downtime to recharge.
Mike committed to lunchtime daylight walks and blocked that time in his schedule, ensuring consistency.
Social Inclusion and Energy Management:
Howard shared a personal story about his sister’s health, which brought up the importance of the 10 factors for longevity previously discussed in the group. Social inclusion was identified as the most critical factor.
The group agreed on the need to protect their own energy while engaging with others, emphasizing that connection-building should not lead to guilt or emotional drain.
Self-kindness was recognized as equally important as fostering connections.
Actions Agreed:
Reaching Out to Others:
Each participant will reach out to someone they haven’t spoken to in a while to check in on them and nurture social connections.
Prioritizing Self-Kindness:
Everyone will incorporate specific opportunities to be kind to themselves throughout the week, whether by resting, enjoying a hobby, or practicing self-care.
Continuing Wellbeing Commitments:
Participants will maintain or adapt their previous wellbeing goals, recognizing what worked and what may need adjustment to better suit their needs.
By focusing on these actions, the group aims to balance self-care with meaningful engagement and connection.
