Other Mental Disorders
Symptoms impair daily functioning
Difficulty controlling anxiety
Anxiety occurs on most days over six months
Adults must exhibit at least three symptoms; children need one
CAUSES
Likely a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental factors
More common in women than men
TREATMENT
PSYCHOTHERAPY
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Helps individuals reframe thoughts and reactions to anxiety-inducing situations
MEDICATIONS
Benzodiazepines
Short-term calming effects but risk tolerance and dependence
Antidepressants
Regulate serotonin levels to elevate mood
