Environmental Considerations and Regulations - Coggle Diagram

- - - - Countries can impose restrictions on trade of petroleum products or outright ban them from being trade within their exclusive economic zone. This allows countries to prevent the trade of petroleum products which will lead to long-term devaluation of these products
    - - Countries can impose taxation on practices which are seemed harmful to the environment, this environmental regulations can create a disincentive for using resources which are not environmentally friendly and can as a result promote equitability in resources use, help achieve sustainability, and prevent negative environmental effects
    - - Countries can prohibit the use of products which are not environmentally friendly which can aid in the developemnt of environmentally friendly industries and as a result will fulffil ethical obligations towards the environment
  - - - Abolishing Gas Networks and Promoting Electrical Reliance
        
        Countries can decommission their gas networks and pipelines and significantly increase their imports of electric appliances such as induction stoves and electric heating elements. This in turn will allow for a significant reduction in the use of fossil fuels which will in turn decrease negative environmental effects.
        
        This can be applied to the aegean dispute as if both parties reduced their reliance on fossil fuels they can both lose interest in the gas deposits in the Aegean territories allowing for a peaceful compromise to be reached
      - Shift to Reliance on Biodegradable plastics for Governmental Use
        
        Countries can change their reliance on plastics to reliance on biodegradeable plastics. Since biodegradeable plastics do not reguire fossil fuels to manufacture and can be disposed of more easily (they won't cause plastic pollution) they are much more enviornmentally friendly.
        
        Relation to Sustainable Trade: This can impact trade negatively in the short-term as most economies reliant on exports will need to change manufacturing processes, supply, chains, development strategies, and tactics to suit this change. Moreover, the biodegradable plastic industry must grow extremely quickly in order to meet demand which will also create a period of time where products are not manufactured and worldwide industries slow to a halt. However, in the long-term biodegradable plastics will be much more environmentally sustainable, and will not depend on finite resource which as a result will allow for sustainable trade to occur where trade can be sustained without any risk for depletion of resources and supply chains are protected from sudden disconnections.
        
        This can be applied to the Aegean dispute as if Greek and Turkey shift their dependence on to biodegradable plastics, this will decrease their interest in fossil fuels, change their views towards environmental sustainability, and will allow them to sustain trade with non-finite resources. As a result, the value of fossil fuels in the aegean territory will decrease, tensions will decrease, and a compromise can be reached between the two parties where they can mend diplomatic relationships.
      - Renewable Energy
        
        Renewable energy can play a significant role in promoting environmental sustainability. Renewable energy sources such as wind power, solar power, and hydropower can provide adequate energy while not affecting the environment. Thus, by adopting renewable energy sources, power plants dependent on fossil fuels such as gas, oil, and coal can be decomissioned or destroyed as renewable enrgy sources will provide the same amount of energy while not consuming any type of significant, valuable, finite resource allowing them to be a much more sustainable option that is more economically friendly.
        
        Relation to Sustainable Trade: Reduced reliance on fossils fuels pretaining to power generation will reduce economical strain as fossil fuels wont have to be imported to power these power plants, as a result trade processes can occur in an increasingly seamless manner that can allow for sustainable trade to be realized where imports of fossil fuels decreases thus freeing up finanaces allowing governent to invest money in valuable trade processes such as investment holdings in other countries. Moreover, excess generateed energy can be exported creating economic gain allowing for trade to become sustainable where countries can rely on others for sustainable energy.
        
        This can be applied to the Aegean dispute as both Turkey and Greece are shifting their power reliance onto sustainable renewable energy resources where this will reduce their reliance on fossil fuels, this in turn will reduce their desire for the gas deposits under the aegean territory which will allow for the dispute to be resolved through compromise rather than through military intervention
      - Retracting Plans for Investment in Fossil Fuel Projects
        
        Governents who have already pledged to support fossil fuel dependetnt projects cna retract their support using sustaianbility goals as justification. They can retract investments, prevent local entities from investing in projects that are depndent on fossil fuels, and they can also terminate projects that were under development. This can prevent reliance on fossil fuels
      - Removing Infrastructure and Assets Reliant on Fossil Fuels
        
        Infrastructure such as Oil Power plants, Gas-Fired power Plants, Coal Power plants, Oil Pipelines, Public transport dependent on diesel fuel (Buses, Trains, Taxi), and landfills/incendiary plants can be destroyed and/or decommissioned, shifts to renewable energy plants, electric transport modalities such as electric buses, electric trains, and electric cars (for taxis), and garbage recycling centers can allow for decreasing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting sustainable practices
        
        Relation to Sustainable Trade: Reduced reliance on fossil fuels can inspire sustainable trade as there will be less dependence on finite resources within trade processes which will ensure that trade can continue to occur with no disruptions
        
        This can be applied to the aegean dispute as if environmental regulations and considerations are applied through removing infrastructure and assets reliant on fossil fuels which will decrease the need for the gas available in the aegean territory and therefore allow both parties to reach a compromise as gas deposits wouldn't be of as much value to them due t their shift to other sustainable resources
      - Negative impact of fossil fuels on the environment:
        
        Fossil fuels are mainly used in applications of combustion, thus when they are burned they produce carbon dioxide, the gas is trapped in the ozone layers and acts as an insulator preventing radiation from escaping. Thus, heat accumulates and temperatures keep on rising, this will negatively impact trade as supply, transport, and distribution chains may be damaged thus hindering trade. This will also hinder sustainable trade as sustainability in trade cannot be attained if supply chains are regularly disrupted
