Extra Points
Digestive system
-
Extra organs: Liver, gallbladder, pancreas.
Function
Breaks down food so nutrients can be absorbed by the body and then eliminates waste.
Ingestion: Anything you eat.
Absorbtion: Obtention of nutrient
Elimination: Get rid off.
Types of digestion
Mechanical digestion: Chewing food to break it down into smaller pieces.
Chemical digestion:Breakdown of large molecules in food into smaller substances by enzymes.
Enzymes: Proteins that speed up chemical reactions. Peristalsis:Waves of muscle contraction during digestion. Carbohydrates: Sugars
Proteins: Are made up of amino acids.
Lipids: Fats.
Vitamins: Organic compounds.
Minerals: Inorganic compounds.
Villi: Finger like structure that absorb nutrients.
Chyme: Semiliquid fluid, its what is not absorbed.
-
Respiratory system
Function Exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the atmosphere and the blood and between the blood and the body's cells.
-
-
-
-
Breathing: Mechamical movement into and out of your lungs.
Respiration: Exchange of gasses.
Exchange of gasses occur in alveoli.
Main parts
-
-
Diaphragm, intercostal muscles
-
Urinary system
It is an excretory system (Removes toxins and wastes from the body) as well as the digestive system, respiratory system and integumentary system.
-
-
Main parts
-
-
Kidneys: Filter blood to remove waste and excess substances, produce urine, release hormones like erythropojetin and renin.
-
-
Circulatory system
-
Main parts
-
Blood
White blood cells: Body disease fighters, developed in marrow.
Platelets: Blood clot formation, produce fibrin.
Plasma: Yellowish fluid, transports, eliminates wastes.
Red blood cells:
- Carry oxigen
- Developed in marrow
- Contain hemoglobin
Heart
Organ that pumps blood and has four chambers: right atrium and right ventricle (pump oxygen-poor blood to the lungs), and left atrium and left ventricle (pump oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body).
-
Nervous system
Function:Gathers information and senses; it is the body's communication network that controls and coordinates all the body functions.
Neurons
-
-
Gather information from the environment, interpret and react to it.
