Spain Builds An American Empire
Christopher Columbus
He made first contact with indigenous people on Oct 12, 1492. This event marked the point in history where all continents in the world became connected. However, he mistakenly thought that they were indians.
In early 1493 he sailed back to Spain where the Spanish Aristocrats who funded his original voyage became excited at the idea of a new route to India and agreed to fund 3 more voyages. In September of 1493 he went on a second voyage with 17 ships and 1000 soldiers as a colonist rather than a explorer.
Discovered the Caribbean Sea in 1492, but thought it was the Indian Ocean.
