Cellular Transport - Coggle Diagram

- - - - The process by which a cell moves large amounts of material, or non-dissolved particles into its cytoplasm from the outside environment.
    - - The process by which large amounts of material, or large non-dissolved particles, are moved from a cell's cytoplasm to the outside environment.
- - - - Small molecules pass through the membrane
    - - Where channels are used to transport larger molecules
        
        Ex: Protein channels
    - - Cellular diffusion with water
        
        3 Scenarios
        
        Hypotonic
        
        LOWER concentration of water (solvent) inside the cell.
        
        Water will diffuse in, until equilibrium
        
        More water enters, can cause a rupture in cell membrane (cytolysis)
        
        Plants - cytolysis is not likely, strong cell wall
        
        Allows it to fight gravity, increases turgor pressure
        
        Isotonic
        
        EQUAL concentrations of water inside as outside the cell.
        
        Continuous flow of water through diffusion, same rate in both directions
        
        Same in both animal and plant cells
        
        Hypertonic
        
        HIGHER concentration of water (solvent) inside the cell.
        
        Water will diffuse out, until equilibrium
        
        Will shrink, and can eventually collapse (Plasmosis)
        
        Plants- Cell wall will keep shape, cytoplasm will still shrink
