-
Plants, Animals, Fungi and Protists
-
Prokaryotic
-
-
-
-
Circular DNA, Floating in Cytoplasm
Sperm
-
-
Acrosome is a cap on the head of the Sperm, Above the Nucleus, that contains enzymes to break down the outer layers of the Egg
Nerve
Long Axon, Transmit Electrical Impulses over long distances
Dendrites, Numerous Branches that receive signals from other Neurons
Synaptic Terminals, release neurotransmitters to pass signals to next cell
Muscle
Elongated shape, Allows contraction and relaxation movement
Many Mitochondria, provides power for continuous muscle movement
Excitable Membrane, responds to Nerve Signals for quick reactions
Root Hair Cell
Long Extension, Increased Surface Area for maximum absoption
Thin Cell wall, Reduces diffusion distance
-
Transport in Cells
Diffusion
when there is less of something on another side of a partially permeable membrane(if we are talking about cells) the particles will diffuse or travel through it to the other side
Factors affecting
Temperature, Concentration, Surface area, Thickness of membrane
Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, Glucose, Urea are all common examples that use Diffusion in our body
Osmosis
Water molecules move from a dilute solution to a more concentrated solution through a partially permeable membrane.
Active Transport
Active transport moves substances against the concentration gradient, using energy (from respiration).
Cell Division
-
Mitosis
A cell divides to produce two identical cells each with the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell.
