isotopes
same number of protons, different number of neutrons
same atomic number, different mass number
-
Relative atomic mass ( Ar) = sum of ( isotope abundance x isotope mass number)/sum of abundances of all the isotopes
e.g. carbon-12: 6 protons, 6 electrons , 6 neutrons
CARBON-13: 6 protons, 6 electrons, 7 neutrons
Isotopes have the same chemical properties because they have the same number of protons and electrons.
