What is Morquio syndrome?
Individuals with this disease usually have: a short stature, a bell shaped chest, bone problems(flared out ribs) and vision problems, cloudy corneas of the eyes, and shorter life expectancy
Morquio syndrome is also known as MPS IV
Morquio has two types, type A and type B
Type A is when an enzyme called galactosamine 6 sulfates is missing
Type b is when enzyme beta galactosidas is running short.

when do Morquio syndrome occur? when and do their span usually run out
Occurs during the ages 1-3 and it will gradually worsen because your body can’t break down sugar chains
People with lenient cases will usually live up to 70
Patients with severe cases can only live up to 30 or less
Who discovered Morquio syndrome and who is it named after?
Luis Morquio(1867-1935), a doctor and physician from Uruguay , the disease was named after Luis Morquio by using his last name
He discovered it when he found 4 children of Swedish descent were affected by this disease.
He was a son to Italian immigrants
How can you cure this syndrome??
Unfortunately there is no cure for this syndrome
Antibiotics are advised to use when you have otolaryngology infections.
But since patients tend to have bone issues and vision problems, you can have surgery for vision and surgeries to fuse the bones to correct spinal problems
Where was Luis Morquio born? and what were his accomplishments?
He was born in 1867 Montevideo (capital of Uruguay)where he later grew up in this city
He earned his degree from his country's university
He was a leader in pediatric medicine
Why do some people have morquio syndrome?
Both parents must have the disease in order for the child to have the disease.The disease might not seem noticeable at first but it will gradually worsen as the child grows
Has either mutations, The GALNS which is the type A and GLB1 which is type B
Morquio syndrome usually happens you you are missing an enzyme that prevents you to break down sugar chains
