The bitz
Many towns and cities throughout Britain were bombed
Two months of nightly bombing on London were followed by bombing of other cities.
People had to spend nights in the air-raid shelters
Evacuation
The government try to reduce the numbers of casualties, and they evacuated children and young mothers from cities to a safe area
The other side, many of the host families were richer, middle-or upper-class people
Rationing
They had to grow as much of their own food as possible and keep their own animals
Families were given books of ration stamps
Food rationing was introduced in January 1940, which caused a major change in people`s lives.
Government encouraged people to save by mending their own clothes and using cheaper and basic clothes
Life of woman
Conscription was introduced in 1939, most men aged between 18 and 40 had to do military service.
In farms and factories had to be done by women
Unmarried woman were constricted
Women were now given the opportunity to do a wide range of jobs
women were expected to return home and give their jobs back to the returning men
This gave them new freedoms and the chance to learn new skills.
