"I think you look like a queen"'. - A sign of love and paternal love connoting to his later letter to Mariam apologising for his neglecance. the simple sentence of 'Jalil beamed' acting as a prefix for his complement helps introduce his internal scene of pride for her. this creates a hyperbolised sense of empathy towards him in reflection as it evidences his longing to be a better father.
