E: Democrats believe it's the job of the state to look after people and help overcome some of life's inequalities

P: Appoint cabinet members
E: They appoint thousands of people to help run the country, once somebody is appointed to a job, they take office, however, members of the cabinet must be confirmed by the senate
E: Joe Biden appointed Pete Buttigieg to be Transport Secretary
P: Executive orders
E: President can bypass Congress on some occasions by using Executive Orders, they allow the president to make laws without congressional approval
E: On the day he took office, Biden signed an executive order that brought the USA back into the Paris Climate Change Agreement

E: They have the responsibility of defending the USA, this includes troops overseas, however, only Congress can declare war and treaties must be approved by the Senate
E: Feb. 2021, Biden ordered a military strike on a camp in Syria, he got criticism for doing this without telling Congress and getting their permission first

E: US Military has some of the most powerful nukes in the world and one of the largest stockpiles of missiles

E: Due to the US having one of the most powerful militaries in the world, other countries don't want to go to war with the US because they will likely lose

E: They can buy the most advanced technology for their military
E: 2020, they spent over $722 billion on their military which is more than the next 11 countries combined
Economic Influence
P: Military spending to help other countries
E: They will give their money to other countries to help them out during times of conflict
E: The USA has spent $120 billion on defence aid to Ukraine since the war started against Russia in 2022
P: Spending from US tourists
E: US is a very wealthy country and lots of the citizens travel, since so many Americans can trace their ancestry to places like Scotland or enjoy Scottish sports such as Golf, Countries like Scotland will do what they can to get American tourists to come and spend money
E: The number 1 source of tourism income to Scotland is from the USA who spend around £500 million and make over 450,000 trips to Scotland each year
P: Many countries benefit on trade from the US
E: The wealth of the country and the amount of people living there means it's a very attractive place to sell goods to so countries such as Scotland rely on the US being able to buy goods from us which helps support jobs and businesses
E: Over £4.5 billion worth of goods and services are sold to the USA from Scottish businesses

E: USA is one of the worlds largest emitters of carbon dioxide and has joined international agreements to tackle it

E: When a decision is made in the USA about women's rights such as abortion, it can have an impact on countries around the world
E: 2022, information was leaked that the supreme court was going to allow abortion to be made illegal which led to protests around the world

E: The USA is a main funder of the World Health Organisation which uses the money to tackle disease around the world
E: April 2020, Donald Trump cut US funding to the World Health Organisation which made it more difficult to tackle global pandemics
