Tips and tricks for finding and securing money:
Venture Grant: deliberate designing the project; co-curricular and experiential research: i.e. a research project you design on your own outside of class
conceived within the disciplinary conventions of a discipline and using the disciplinary METHODS of that field (i.e. autoethnogrpahy, participant observations, interviews, etc)
meaningful
research project that you're not going to get in the classroom
does not have to be tied to your major/minor
you can piggyback a Venture grant onto something (block abroad, class field component, etc)
funds can be used for transportation, food, housing, expenses like museums/archives
can be used as matching funds with other funding sources at CC
Venture Grant Dates: DUE 1st Wednesday of each Block
Emailing Faculty: "I'm interested in doing a Venture grant on X. Could we meet to refine the research question and methodologies?"

molec bio with a focus on cancer biology with Dr. Hatten--maybe get funds and stack with Netherlands opportunity
where are you going to be this summer? What can you do there? Where can you travel to? (Developing site-based projects)
Idea: Looking at architectural designs in Rhode Island to think about mood and opinions of housing?
Sociology? Anthropology? Psychology?
you'll need to have a research question and disciplinary methods
looking at differences through medical anthropology--seeing how one's openness to going to the doctor is between Netherlands and US (Las Vegas)
