Media and Romance: The Relationship Between the Content People View and their Romantic Beliefs and Behaviors by Amber Horan
-
Goals: This source aims to persuade the reader that social norms determine what people should think and how they should act when forming romantic relationship. Mass media and social networking sites are two types of networks that affect how these relationships develop. Previous studies used traditional media like movies to prove these relationships, whereas this study aims to look at the relationships through new media, like Instagram or dating apps
Credibility: Author Sara Hare had her dissertation reviewed by a committee, hence being published by Walden University. This study includes an abstract, showing a structure research approach for her study.
Aim: I will choose to use this source to correlate the differences that are shown in romantic relationships before social media was apparent and how it has shaped relationships now, and how that is shown in recent romance genres in film.
Movies, gender, and societal change: the Hollywood romance film by James Dowd, Arielle Crabtree, and Bryan Cannon
-
Goals: This source aims to persuade that romance film genre has traditionally depicted women in stereotyped ways, analyzing that there are concerns that romance couples exhibit behaviors as either “masculine” or “feminine”. This film addresses how Hollywood movies could lessen the extent of gender inequality in Western society.
Aim: I plan to use this source to show how traditional stereotypes of masculine and feminine is diminished through the use of social media and ever changing emerges of what people define to be a traditional relationship, using specific films to prove this claim
Credibility: Including a lost of references, it is a published academic journal with a structured research approach that includes detailed descriptions of sample and analysis.
