Endocrine System Rosa Reyes P.5 - Coggle Diagram
Endocrine System Rosa Reyes P.5
Major Functions
System controls reproduction, growth and development, maintenance of electrolyte, H2O and nutrients balance of blood. Also regulates cellular metabolism and energy balance, lastly mobilization of body defenses
Major Gland/ Organs & Functions
....
Hormone / Target Organs
Pineal Gland - Secretes melanin, involved in regulation of circadian rhythms of body
Posterior Pituitary - (ADH) Causes kidneys to conserve water
(OT) Contracts smooth muscle in the uterine wall
Anterior Pituitary - (GH) Stimulates an increase in size and division rate of body cells
(PRL) Sustains milk production after birth
(TSH) Controls secretion of hormones from thyroid gland
(LH) Promotes secretion of sex hormones and plays a role in releasing an egg cell in females
(FSH) Responsible for development of egg-containing follicles in ovaries and stimulates funicular cells to secrete estrogen
(ACTH) Controls secretion of certain hormones from adrenal cortex
Hypothalamus - Inhibits the pituitary
Parathyroid gland - (PTH) Increases blood calcium ions conentration and decreased phosphate ion concentration
Outter Cortex - (Cortisol) Synthesis of glucose from protein and fat
(Aldosterone) Maintains salt water level
Inner Medulla - (Epinephrine) Acts along sympathetic nervous system
(Nonrephrine) Acts along with epinephrine
Uterus - (Gonadotrophin)
Testis - (Testosterone)
Ovaries - (Estrogen and Progesterone)
Pancreases - (Insulin) Decreases blood level of glucose
(Glucagon) Increases blood level of glucose
Thymus - (Thymoyins) Affect production and differentiation of T lymphocytes
Thyroid Gland - (T4) Increases rate of energy release from carbohydrates, increases rate of protein
(T3) Same as T4
(Calcitrin) Lowers blood calcium and phosphate ion
Steroid VS. Non-Steroid Hormones... List Hormones
Steroid - Aldosterone , Cortisol, Cortisone , and Corticosterone
Homeostatic Mechanisms of Hormone Regulation (negative/ positive)
Negative - TH release is regulated by negative Feedback. The falling TH levels stimulate release of TSH
Diseases of Endocrine System
Diabetes Inspidus- ADH deficiency due to damage to hypothalamus/ posterior pituitary gland
Crushing Syndrome - Depresses cartilage/ bone formation and immune system inhibits inflammation. Even disrupts neural
Hyperinsulinism - Causes hypoglycemia (low blood glucose levels)
Diabetes Mellitus - (Type 1) Hypo secretion of insulin.... (Type 2) Hypo activity of insulin
Addison's Disease - Deficit in glucose and neural cortides
Myxedema - Lack of iodine
