- - - - 11.2.3 Reduce Failure Domain Size:
        
        A well-designed network controls traffic and limits failure domains—the area affected when a device fails. The impact depends on the failed device; a switch failure affects connected hosts, while a router failure impacts multiple segments.
        
        Redundant links and enterprise-grade equipment reduce disruptions, while smaller failure domains simplify troubleshooting and minimize downtime. The distribution layer is the best point to control failure domains cost-effectively.
        
        Switch block deployment, using paired routers or multilayer switches, ensures independent operation. This setup prevents single-device failures from significantly affecting the network.
        
        11.2.4 Increase Bandwidth:
        In hierarchical networks, some links handle more traffic than others, creating potential bottlenecks. Link aggregation, like EtherChannel, increases bandwidth by combining multiple physical links into one logical link.
        EtherChannel uses existing switch ports, avoiding costly upgrades. It ensures configuration consistency, simplifies management, and enables load balancing across aggregated links for improved performance.
        
        11.2.5 Expand the Access Layer:
        Expanding network access is crucial, and wireless connectivity offers flexibility, cost savings, and scalability. Devices need a wireless NIC and connect via a wireless router or access point (AP).
        Key factors in wireless implementation include device selection, coverage, interference, and security considerations.
        
        11.2.6 Tune Routing Protocols:
        Advanced routing protocols like OSPF are ideal for large networks, ensuring fast convergence. As a link-state protocol, OSPF establishes neighbor relationships, synchronizes link-state databases, and updates routes dynamically when network changes occur.
