Gynaecological Cancers
Ovarian Cancer
Symptoms: abdominal pain, abnormal vaginal bleeding, weight loss, loss of appetite and fatigue and abdominal distension.

Presents with a number of different symptoms, often multiple symptoms simultaneously.
Ultrasound, particularly trans-vaginal, can image the ovaries well and is generally used after a raised CA125 is found or suspicion despite normal CA125.

When to refer

Consider direct access to ultrasound aged 55 years and over with unexplained vaginal discharge who present with symptoms for first time, have thrombocytosis or report haematuria. Visible haematuria and low haemoglobin levels, thrombocytosis or high blood glucose levels.
Cervical Cancer

Symptoms include: intermenstrual bleeding and post-coital bleeding, vaginal discharge and pain.
Consider a suspected cancer referral pathway for women if, on examination, the appearance of their cervix is consistent with cervical cancer.
Vulval cancer

Usually presents with a mass or ulceration, vulval itch or redness, or bleeding of the vulva.
Consider suspected cancer pathway referral for vulval cancer in women with an unexplained vulval lump, ulceration or bleeding.
Vaginal Cancer

Consider a suspected cancer pathway referral for vaginal cancer in women with an unexplained palpable mass in or at the entrance to the vaginal.
