Progression of personal project
Hokusai
I feel like the Hokusai inspired work I have done so far has been success, and I am going to continue with the ukiyo-e theme throughout my project, using my own primary imagery.
Pros - I feel like the incorporation of this type of artwork into my own is quite easy to do, whilst the sue of watercolours proves to be the most beneficiary medium for this style of artwork.
Cons - due to the genre of Ukiyo-e using quite mellow and softer mediums, I question whether other mediums will be compatible with this genre. I think that with some experimentation, bolder mediums such as acrylic and oil pastel can be incorporated into this subsection of my project.
Oriol Angrill-Jorda
Currently I have not placed much emphasis on the style of Angrill-Jorda in my artwork, this is something I am going to work towards doing more of as I progress throughout the project. by blending my primary portrait and natural imagery, to create a resemblance of this type of artwork .
Pros - This type of artwork is quite efficient in demonstrating skill in an artist, therefore making it my preferred choice for more sustained piece of art.
Cons - the duration in which a piece of this work is produced is especially lengthy, and so various drafts must be produced before attempting a piece of this style.
Christoffer Relander
The computerised edits of Christoffer Relander are a useful edition to the project o far, as they complement the work of Angrill-Jorda, with both artists sharing similar themes and imagery whilst using contrasting mediums. I plan to continue with this type of artwork throughout my project.
Pros - Due to the computerised aspects of these edits, they are quite simple to produce, and therefore it is possible to create various edits in a short period of time, for a page in the sketchbook, or for inspiration for a more sustained piece
Cons - though the skill used to to gather and take photographs for these edits is apparent, it does not demonstrate the time and effort that has been put in, in a way that physical art is, much better at conveying.
Experimental Mediums and techniques
Mono Printing
Is most beneficial for experimenting with colour blending, and therefore can be applied to Hokusai style art, as the use of blending in his landscapes is prevalent throughout. I may not continue with this.
Sketches
Provide a good base for future sustained artwork, and also provides outlines for various painting styles. Is relevant to all styles of art. Something I am likely to continue with.
Crosshatching
Used to create texture and tone. A reliable method of shading. Best for sustained drawings and sketches. I am likely to continue with this.
Watercolours
Is a very good pairing for the Hokusai work I find, is quite a soft medium and one of my strengths. this is something I am likely to continue with.
Acrylic paints
Is something that I have not yet experimented with in this project, however I feel this bold medium would serve some of my more statement pieces well. I am most likely to use this medium within the Hokusai or Angrill-Jorda style pieces.
