Chronic hypertension
Obesity
Minority racial or ethnic group or otherwise disadvantaged
Chronic renal disease
Poorly controlled hyperthyroidism
Patient themself was small for gestational age
Fetal growth restriction, abruptio placentae, or fetal demise in a previous pregnacy

Visual abnormalities (scotomata, photophobia, blurred vision, or temporary blindness [rare])
Upper abdominal, retrosternal, or epigastric pain

Altered mental status (confusion, altered behavior [agitation])
How is it Defined?
- Defined by SBP Greater 140 mm Hg or DBP Greater 90 mm Hg observed on at least 2occasions, at least 4 hours apart, and proteinuria.
- Proteinuria: Urine spot protein: Cr greater than or equal to 0.3mg/dL or protein greater than or equal to 300 mg in 24 hour urine collection
Severe features:
SBP greater than or equal to160 mm Hg or DBP greater than or equal 110 mm Hg observed on at least 2 occasions,
at least 4 hours apart (unless antihypertensive medications are
administered before that time)
Lab tests

Liver chemistries (aspartate aminotransferase [AST], alanine aminotransferase [ALT]) and bilirubin
Urinary protein determination (protein to creatinine ratio in a random urine specimen or 24-hour urine collection for total protein)
