The relative pronoun can be omitted when the object is the clause.
EXAMPLE: They are eating the food that you made.
When the relative pronoun is the subject of the clause, it cannot be omitted.
EXAMPLE:
The customer who called me was angry. (correct)
The customer called me yesterday was angry. (incorrect)
