who was he ?
Morris Cohen was an American citizen of Ucranian origin spy in service of the Comunist Soviet Union.
in 1941 Morris married a woman named Lona who was an activist in the small but then active American Communist Party, as well as a personal courier for physicist Theodore Hall, who was part of a Soviet spy ring for the Manhattan Project, aimed at building the first American atomic bomb.
Cohen entered the Us Navy on 1941 and was imediatly transfered to the east european front where he served until 1945,when he came back to work as a spy for the USSR.
The couple continued living and working for the USSR in the US, but on 1950 after the situation got tense and dangerous for them, the took the option of entering their beloved nation the USSR where they where until 1954, when they moved to London where they built up a book place to hide the equipment they used to make the transmission to Moscow.
Initial Formation
Morris was born in New York. His father was from Kiev and her mother was from Vilna. i his youth Morris got the opportunnity to serve for the international Brigade inside the Mckenzie-papineau battallion in the Spanish Civil war in favour of the republican Goverment, this agave him a first look of the real world and all the problems that were cuased by different factors during the mid XX century.
During his serving in Spain he met Amadeo Sabatini , a Soviet spy , this was the first encounter of Cohen with spies and this sigilous activity.
Due to several wounds he returned to America were he started planning his entry to the spying world.
Legacy
Morris, like his wife, was awarded the "Order of the Red Flag" and the "Order of the Friendship of Nations" for his espionage work in the United States and Great Britain. Even after the Soviet Union, both were awarded the title of "Heroes of the Russian Federation" by Boris Yeltsin's government.
The Cohens helped leak to the USSR secrets of the Manhattan Project, aimed at building the first U.S. atomic bomb.
After the couple died there were several media projects that included them as important characters inside the context of spying and nuclear competence during the cold war.
The Cohens were a headache for the CIA who encountered themselves in a difficult situation in which the spies were really discreet and careful with their movements, and also the Couple was able to hide behind many other suspects, becuase they were american spies , who were born in america , knew america , andwere spying in a safe known place.
