Nervous System
-
-
Neurons have 3 parts
-
2-cell body
contains nucleus and organelles responsible for cellular function, they receive impulse from dendrites
-
Types of Neurons (in reflex arc=nerve pathway that includes interneurons and sensroy neurons and motor neurons)
-
2-interneurons
link between sensory neuron and motor neuron, located in the brain and spinal cord
-
Nerve impulse at rest
-
sodium ions are pumped outside while potassium ions are pumped to the inside by the sodium potassium pump//negatively charged proteins
-
When stimulus reaches threshold, channels open causing sodium ions to be pumped in the channels. The change of electrical charge to more positive inside causes another channel to open, making the potassium ions pump out of the cell//restoring the positive charge outside
rapid positive to negative movement across the axon is viewed as a wave, we can see this by seeing sodium and potassium reversal
Neurons; conduct electrical impulses that allow cells, tissues and organs to detect and respond to impulses
a nerve impulse is also known as an action potential, minimum amount of stimulus needed to cause action potential is called a threshold
