fasting
-
seems to have become the new trending way to diet in the fitness world.
At it's simplest form, fasting is a willful refrainment from eating and/or drinking. Many people have taken fasting as a way to spend time away from non food-related things such as social media, television, alcohol, or smoking.
Because of the way intermittent fasting is scheduled, many people tend to over-eat on "feasting" days, which are days when you are allowed to have food.
Intermittent fasting is just another way to deprive the body of food. It is a form of restrictive eating that shows a direct correlation from not eating at all to weight loss. The more/longer the fast, the more calories are skipped and the more weight is lost
keto diet
restricting carbs and protein, only eating foods high in fat. sending body into ketosis which burns up the fat in body.
marketed as a quick surefire way to lose a drastic amount of weight
when not done right, keto diet could cause low blood pressure, kidney stones, constipation, nutrient deficiencies and an increased risk of heart disease. Strict diets like keto could also cause social isolation or disordered eating.
juice cleanses
highly marketed type of diet when someone wants to lose weight rapidly, a person is only allowed to drink a set amount of juice bottles a day, in replacement of meals.
extremely low nutrient intake and calories. people also commonly experience side effects such as headaches, fatigue, difficulty thinking, moodiness, stomach pain and hunger pangs.
celery diet
Severely restricting calories and eliminating all dairy, protein foods, fruits, grains and other veggies from your diet can cause anemia, gallstones, heart problems and decreased immunity.
Additionally, such quick weight loss is likely to come from mostly water weight and muscle mass rather than fat. Eating nothing but celery for an extended period of time may also negatively affect your metabolism
5-bite diet
puts body into starvation mode, which can lower metabolism, affect ability to regulate temperature, and potentially damage organs
limits to only 12 bites of food each day: 5 bites for lunch, 5 bites for dinner, and two 1-bite snacks.
This is marketed as a short-term diet for rapid weight loss without needing exercise or healthy food.
apple cider diet
taking 1-2 tbsp (15-30ml) of ACV per day, mixed with water, to achieve the touted weight loss benefits. The dose should be spread out over a 24 hour period, potentially consuming the diluted dose directly before meals.
though beneficial when taking in small doses, there are many people who do not know how much they are supposed to take. consuming too much acv over a short period of time can be detrimental to one's health
may reduce the rate at which food leaves the stomach and enters the lower digestive tract. This could slow the absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream.
smoking
Nicotine suppresses appetite and increases metabolism, and also serves as a behavioral alternative to eating or a distraction from hunger or food craving
replacing meals with nicotine is harmful not only to the digestive system, but also for the lungs. with no actual food, the person might feel weak, nauseous and even have fainting spells
shapewear
But if you wear a body garment that is extremely tight for a long time, it could squeeze your digestive tract enough to create acid reflux, a condition in which stomach contents leak into the esophagus.
Shapewear is an undergarment that helps create a smooth silhouette and sculpt your figure to highlight your natural curves
no carbs
false message being spread that carbs are "bad" and have no nutritional value and is the main cause of weight gain.
people have gone to the extent of removing carbs from meals, digging out the "guts" of a loaf and only eating the skin or not eating the skin of a pizza.
