Etiology, and Risk Factor ofSchizophrenia
According to Zahnia and Sumekar (2016), the risk factors for schizophrenia are:
Age, Gender, Profession, Marital status, Family conflict, Economic status
The etiology of schizophrenia remains unclear. Several studies postulate that the development of schizophrenia results from abnormalities in multiple neurotransmitters, such as dopaminergic, serotonergic, and alpha-adrenergic hyperactivity or glutaminergic and GABA hypoactivity. Genetics also plays a fundamental role.

THE LIMBIC SYSTEM
The limbic system is not a separate structure but a ring of forebrain structures that surround the brain stem and are interconnected by intricate neuron pathways. The limbic system is considered to be the epicentre of emotional and behavioral expression. A quick way to remember the functions of the limbic system is to think about five “F’s”:
- Feeding (satiety & hunger)
- Forgetting (memory)
- Fighting (emotional response)
- Family (sexual reproduction and maternal instincts)
- Fornicating (sexual arousal)
