Formative
Definition: evidence of student learning to give feedback and adjust learning. It allows for evaluation of student needs, comprehension, and progress during units or course.
Quick Write: a quick write over the topic allows students to write what they know about the topic and allows teachers to evaluate learning strategies they may need and can tell them their comprehension and progress they have made mid-unit/topic.
Exit ticket: An exit ticket asks students to answer a question over the information they have been learning at the end of class. This shows the teacher how well they are doing with the lesson and what adjustments need to be made.
Diagnostics
Definition: Diagnostic assessments are used to collect data on what students may already know about a topic.

KWLS Chart: KWLS charts assesses what students KNOW, what they WANT to know, then after they write what they learned and what they still want to know. It allows students to reread and clarify their reading.
Summative
Definition: Assessments given time to time that measure material that students understand. It is given at the end of a unit to evaluate what students know and don't know from the unit.
Semester Exams: Semester exams measures what the students have learned throughout the semester and evaluates what they learned and did not learn.
Portfolio Assessment: A portfolio is a compilation of a students work throughout a period of time or unit. It's a collection of work that will show their improvement throughout that time frame.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Assessments used to evaluate where they are in their learning process and monitor growth according to the unit standards. They are given periodically.

MoY Testing: Testing done in the middle of the year to assess growth from the beginning to the middle of the year.
Performance
Definition: A performance assessment allows teachers to evaluate responses or demonstrations by students about work they have done over time.
Constructing a graph and presenting it: This allows students to present and demonstrate their knowledge in graphing by taking an equation, describing the graph and explaining what type of function it is.
Argument Writing Activity: write an argument defending answers to presented questions and defend your argument in class through whole-class discussion.
