Diagnosing

IEP Referral
Referral
Can be from parent, teacher or other school personnel for evaluation.
Evaluation
Will measure areas of cognition, academics and language skills along with social, emotional, developmental and medical findings..
Determining Eligibility
Eligibility based on IDEA ( The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).
Writing an Individual Program
An individual program suited for the student and their needs and with least restrictive environment.
IEP Meeting
A meeting with IEP team which includes parents. They will go over their results and parents are able to share concerns.
Special Education Assessment in South Korea
Stage 1
Referral for eligibility by parents or head of school.
Screening test and monitoring students progress for atleast 3 months.
Small group supplemental classes
After school classes
Stage 2
Assessment of student after 3 month monitoring.
Achieve a score on IQ Test of above 70.
Stage 3
Exclusionary factors considered
Concluding if student has any intellectual disabilities or emotional/behavior ones.
Family issues or cultural concerns
Student is not selected as a student with a learning disorder.
Final
Inclusive education either in general or special education classes .
