Layers of the skin
the epidermi: Your epidermis is the outermost layer of skin on your body.
dermis: the thick layer of living tissue below the epidermis which forms the true skin, containing blood capillaries, nerve endings,
the hypodermis:The hypodermis is the bottom layer of skin in your body.
Major functions of the skin
Acts as a sensory organ
Helps regulate temperature.
Provides a protective barrier against mechanical, thermal and physical injury and hazardous substances.
The skin performs six primary functions which include, protection, absorption, excretion, secretion, regulation and sensation.
Storing blood: The skin acts as a reservoir to store blood
Vitamin D production:
Accessory organs
The accessory organs are the teeth, tongue, and glandular organs such as salivary glands, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas
tongue:The tongue is a muscular organ in the mouth. The tongue is covered with moist, pink tissue called mucosa
glandular:These glands are known as ENDOCRINE glands. Thus the two types of glands are called : Exocrine and Endocrine.

Human teeth include incisors, canines, premolars, and molars. Children will usually get all of their 20 primary teeth by around the age of 3.
salivary glands:Salivary glands make saliva, which aids in digestion, keeps your mouth moist and supports healthy teeth.
liver:The liver is the largest solid organ in the body. It removes toxins from the body's blood supply, maintains healthy blood sugar levels
gallbladder,: he gallbladder is a small sack in the upper right abdomen, below your liver. It looks like a sideways pear.
Skin cancer and the ABCDE rule
skin cancer is the out-of-control growth of abnormal cells in the epidermis, the outermost skin layer, caused by unrepaired DNA damage
ABCDE stands for asymmetry, border, color, diameter and evolving
Degrees of Burns and the Rules of Nines
The front and back of the head and neck equal 9% of the body's surface area.
The front and back of each arm and hand equal 9% of the body's surface area.
The size of a burn can be quickly estimated by using the "rule of nines."
First-degree burns affect only the outer layer of the skin. They cause pain, redness, and swelling. Second-degree burns affect both the outer and underlying layer of skin. third degree burn third-degree burns: widespread thickness with a white, leathery appearance.
Other disorders associated with the Integumentary system
Birthmarks – many people are born with birthmarks.
Atopic dermatitis: is a condition that causes dry, itchy and inflamed skin. It's common in young children but can occur at any age.
Acne – Acne is the most common skin disorder in the United States, affecting up to 50 million Americans annually
Shingles;Shingles is a viral infection that causes a painful rash. Shingles can occur anywhere on your body.
Sunburn:Sunburn is inflamed, painful skin that feels hot to the touch. It often appears within a few hours of being in the sun too long
Diaper Rash: Diaper rash is a common form of irritated skin
