An accidental death of an anarchist
Dario Fo
He wrote the play in 1970 based off the Milan bombings in 1969
He was a marxist
He felt that the Italian government was corrupt
He felt that society was unequal and that the people who were running the country were idiots
The police used working class to cover up their mistakes
The event
December 1969- The milan bombing
It involved 16 people being killed
Giuseppe Pinelli was arrested under suspicion
He mysteriously died after falling out of the window of the fourth floor in the police department whilst in custody
Commedia dell'arte
Maniac- Comico/Capitanio because he is a very large person who tries to take control over the room but is also loud and enthusiastic
Superintendent- Magnifico because he is greedy with aspirations and he stands tall and poised.
Bertozzo- Pantelone because he likes to take control of a situation and a room however physically he does not suit Pantelone
Constable- Zanni because he is at the bottom of the hierarchy. Does not physically relate. Seen as quite a childlike character.
Pissani- Pedrolino because he is comical and simple minded. He also becomes quite childish like Pissani
Feletti- Isabella because of the exaggerated movement of the hands. No physical contact between lovers. Any imperfection spells disaster. Always looking in hand held mirror
Chess Flooring
16 people were killed. There are 16 chess pieces in a game
In chess there are prawns who are the lowest in the hierarchy and fight to save the people higher up.
This can be reflective of the play as anarchist was mysterious blamed and died because of people higher up
