INFLAMMATION
-
TYPES OF INFLAMMATION
ACUTE INFAMMATION
Major cell involved - neutrophils, mononuclear cell (monocyte and macrophages)
-
-
-
-
-
Outcomes - resolution, abscess formation and chronic inflammation
CHRONIC INFLAMMATION
Occur in longer duration and either after causative agents of acute inflammation persist for a long time or the stimulus induces chronic inflammation from the beginning.
Causative agent - persistent acute inflammation due to non-degradable pathogens, persistent foreign bodies or autoimmune reaction
Major cell involved - mononuclear cell (monocytes, macrophages, lymphocytes, plasma cell), fibroblasts
Primary mediators - IFN-y and other cytokines, growth factors, reactive oxygen species, hydrolytic enzymes
