BAKHTINS idea of a polyphonic text as Ndichie serves to 'strengthen conception of ideology' by illuminating relations between subjects, in this case conncecting Kambili's reaction to Aunt Iffeoma's action towards Papa.
EFFECT: By mediating between the presentation of the action and the perspective of the characters involved, Ndichie enables Kambili to be empathic and distant at the same time. While empathy allows Kambili to be involved in the action and triggers the emotional response of a vulnerable child, being distant reveals the ironical situation of what she sees and sheds light on the mindset of the people involved.By doing so, Ndichie creatively encompasses multiple perspectives of the situation to portray the thoughts of African people which influences how the colonialist and European countries view Africa and hence eradicates any false or incomplete stereotypes associated with it's image.
EXPLANATION: Here the reader gains an insight on 2 contrasting perpectives other than Kambilis, Aunt Ifeomas and Papa's. It can be inferred by Kambili's shocked reaction to Aunt Ifeoma's tone towards her father, reveals her internal consciousness of her father as being 'different and special'. The reader however cannot interpret this words to the true definition of Eugene due to the presence of multiple voices such as Mama and Jaja who form more than a single consiciousness regarding Eugene and his abusive paradoxical nature.
