CONCEPTS OF HEALTH AND WELLBEING
Concepts
dynamic and subjective
Examples: John suffers from a range of illnesses. One day he may feel like he has no energy and unable to complete daily tasks. However the next day he make great and able to complete all day task due to having adequate energy levels.
Subjective: Health and wellbeing is considered subjective as it means different things to different people
Dynamic: Health and wellbeing is considered dynamic as it is constantly changing. This could be a quick or slow change
Example: Sarah who suffers from type 2 diabetes may see her self as physically health as she is able to complete all daily tasks. However someone else may see her as not being physical healthy because she is suffering from an illness

Health and wellbeing: The state of a persons physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual existence, characterised by an equilibrium in which an individual feels happy, healthy, capable and engaged.
Illness VS Disease
Illness: Illness is a subjective concept relating to the personal experience of a disease.
Disease: disease is a physical or mental disturbance involving symptoms, dysfunction or tissue damage.
Dimensions
Spiritual- relates to the ideas, beliefs, ethics and values that arise in the mind and conscious of humans
Emotional- relates to the ability to recognise, understand and effectively display and manage emotions as well as the ability to display resilience
Mental- relates to the state of a persons mind or brain and the ability to think and process information
Social- ability to form meaningful and satisfying relationships and the ability to adapt to different social situations
Physical- relates to the functioning of the body and its systems, including the physical capacity to preform daily activities or tasks
Health and Wellbeing as a resource
National: When a countries population is experiencing a high level of health and wellbeing there see to be an increase in social and economic levels
Examples: higher average incomes, increased productivity, allows more social interaction with friends and family
Global: Countries which experience optimal health and wellbeing reduce health risks in other countries. This includes things such as the reduction in spread of disease, increase in trade of goods and progress in achieving sustainable development goals
Individual: When an individual is experiencing overall optimal health and wellbeing , they are able to effectively participate in daily tasks and complete these tasks to the fullest
Example: reduces the risk of disease transmission, increased trade, promotes social development, longer and healthier lives
Example: earn an income, increases the ability to exercise, gain an education, work productively, Work toward a purpose in life
