Effect of alcohol on physiological arousal levels - Coggle Diagram
Effect of alcohol on physiological arousal levels
Sample size
Everyone over 18
Different ocupations
Same age
Different genders
Research design type
Observational
PROS:
Easy method, natural surroundings, accurate
CONS:
Can't observe thoughts/subjective feelings.
Qualitative
PROS:
Can observe changing attitudes, flexible, more targeted.
CONS:
Subject to bias, data can't be generalised.
Experimental
PROS:
High level of control, specific conclusions
CONS:
May be subjective, due to human error
Ethical consideration
Religion
It is important for ethical considerations to respect religions as some prohibit drinking.
Age
It is important to ensure that all participants are at the legal drinking age baed on the area in which the experiment is conducted.
Ability to withdraw consent
The ability to withdraw consent is important for the participants to feel comfortable in the experimental environment. It will be ensured that if the participant no longer wants to be a part of the experiment, they are able to leave for any reason at any time.
Variables
Independent variable: Alcohol level ingested
Extraneous variable
Situational variables
The experiment will be in a controlled environment so the situation may be stressful. Often people react differently and copy the actions and mannerisms of others, this may be present in the experiment.
Constant Variables
Constant variables will be the amount of alcohol, and the time between alcohol consumption.
Participant variables
The way people react to alcohol will affect the data, some people have a higher/lower tolerance than others so this will affect data.
Dependent variable measures
Objective Quantitative
CONS:
Objective quantitative data doesn’t explain why.
PROS:
Larger sample size
Qualitative
CONS:
Bias harder to control
PROS:
Contains a deeper understanding
Subjective Quantitative
CONS:
Subjective quantitative data doesn’t explain why.
PROS:
Easier to control, easier to analyse, larger sample size
