Civics and citizenship is the study of citizens rights and responsibilities and how the government works.
6 Key Concepts
westminster system-Australia’s system of government is based on the Westminster system. The Westminster system is a form of parliamentary government originating in the United Kingdom.
democratic values-Democratic values are the beliefs and ideals that are held by our society as a democracy.
rights and responsibilities-Our rights ensure we are able to have a say in the way our country is run and are treated fairly in the process.
justice-The idea of justice can mean different things to different people depending on their nationality, culture and values. For some it might mean seeking revenge or payback, while for others it might mean fairness.
democracy- is a system of government in which the people have the power to determine how they will be ruled or managed.
participation-In Australia, we participate in society through activities such as voting in an election or referendum, serving on a jury or paying taxes
Australia's system of government is a representative democracy
Undemocratic-undemocratic countries are usually run by a royalty and the king/queen or dictator get the final say in all democratic and social issues in the country.
what is a representative democracy
a representative democracy is a type of democracy where elected persons represent a group of people, in contrast to a direct democracy.
Australia's levels of parliament.
Federal- deals with the countries defences and political matters.
State - deals with roads, hospitals, and schools.
Local- deals with parks and bin collection.
Australia's constitution is a set of rules by which the country is governed. australia voted for the constitution in a series of referendums. the constitution establishes the composition of the Australian parliament, describes how parliament works and what power it has.
Separation of Australia's Power
Executive- the power to administer the law (government departments, Prime minister and senior minister, and the Governor General)
Judiciary- power to apply the law ( high court, and the other federal courts)
Legislature- has the power to make laws ( house of representatives or lower house and the senate or upper house.)
Indonesia's system of Government is a republic.
what is a republic?
a republic is a form of government in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives. in republics, the county is considered a "public matter" not the private concern or property of the rules.
Indonesia has similar levels of parliament to Australia but with different names.
Indonesia's separation of power is similar to Australia's separation of power. Like Australia, the Indonesian system of government is based on the principle of the separation of powers. This means that no one group or body can ever hold each of the three main branches of power in the Indonesian parliamentary system.

District or Cities- similar to local
National Provincial- similar to federal
