Nancy Clutter - The town 'darling'. Very mature, keeping to a schedule, helping others and doing much of the housework.
Bonnie Clutter - The mother of the clutter family, though she is nervous and absent. This is due to her long history of depression.
Alvin Dewey - An investigator of the Clutter case. He is portrayed as a heroic figure, and seeks the death penalty.
Willie Jay - An inmate of the same prison as Perry and Dick. Informs them of a 'score' at the Clutter family house.

Bobby Rupp - Love interest of Nancy Clutter. There is internal conflict, as Bobby's family is Roman - Catholic, whereas the Clutter family is Methodist.
