add to sheep somehow: This not only provides our sheep with a diverse, nutrient-dense diet from grazing the plants below, but they also snack on the lower branches and leaves of the lemon trees, providing a valuable tree-pruning service. Incidentally, the lemon leaves serve as a natural dewormer for the herd (meaning no chemical dewormers needed), and they also encourage lactation for nursing moms come lambing season. And of course, always by their side are our livestock guardian dogs. We currently use both Great Pyrenees and Akbash breeds as guardians. Both breeds do a great job at protecting the herd from coyotes or other predators. No training is needed for these pups––they do this work instinctively.
