Are used when it is a polite and delicate way of asking or when the question is addressed to an unknown person.
Features
Auxiliary verb is NOT used.
The order of the words is as if it were a normal sentence (affirmative)

Introductory phrase + Question word + Subject + Complement

We could use "Can you tell me"
Can you tell me what the time is?
Where is the bank?
We could use " Do you know"

are the basic type of questions
Use
They are used to request information that has not been previously mentioned.
Structure
Question word + auxiliary + subject + main verb

Where do you study English?
How is she doing today?
