Macbeth
Act 1
Scene 1
The witches speak in verse which shows power and a chant (curse) they are super natural because it sounds like they are using iambic pentameter but they are speaking differently trochaic tetrameter. All these thangs are not what they seem. 'fair is foul and foul is fair' foreshadowing, when Macbeth has to act one way on the outside but inside knows he has murdered the king.
Scene 2
Macbeth does what happens to a traitor of what will happen to him as he becomes a traitor by killing the king.
We begin to see how much Macbeth means to Duncan and how he is so loyal to Duncan that he could be family almost.
Even though the Norwegians came as well Macbeth and Banquo are still not scared at all.
Ross says ' God save the king' this links to the Divine rights of kings.
Scene 3
Shows how powerful the witches are, they say they can cause a storm big enough to sink a ship.
Here Macbeth is first starting to think about power ' Banquo says that he is rapt' as in he is in a trace that he could have toe power to be king and the power that comes with it.
Banquo is a relative of king James so he has to be presented as good and he cant be a bad person as Shakespeare is trying to impress the current king.
Banquo is saying are we hallucinating did the witches actually just come.
Scene 4
Duncan says that you cant tell what people are thinking from their face 'there's no art to find the minds construction in the face. which happens to him when Macbeth is thinking of killing him but you couldn't see it on his face. This is when Macbeth starts to become more ambitious and wants to be the king and kill Malcom. Shakespeare is continuing to praise Banquo as he is related to king James (the current king when it was written).
Scene 5
First time we see prose in the play, when lady Macbeth is reading Macbeths letter as it shows informality, this also shows Macbeth trusts her. Macbeth is asking her to keep it secret but think about it.
Scene 6
Duncan an Banquo say how nice the castle is and the grounds, then lady Macbeth says welcome we will do anything for you.
Lady Macbeth has taken the role of the head of the house by greeting Duncan
this goes against the theme of woman as she is the head of the house but usually it would be the man of the house
Scene 7
Macbeth is wrestling with his conscience. its the only point that he tells lady Macbeth he is not going to murder Duncan.

Act 3
Scene 1
Here Banquo's silique can be taken 2 ways either that he is suspicious of Macbeth or that he it happy that the witches prophecies have come true so his sons will soon be kings also so he might be happy to wait.
Macbeth is trying to lull Banquo try's to lull Banquo into a false sense of security by saying 'come to the banquet which happens in the ghost.
Macbeth is saying that Banquo is clever and knows what he has done and thinks that he will be killed by Banquo.
Banquo is the only person Macbeth fears.
now Macbeth thinks about it he has benefited Banquo more than himself by killing Duncan as Banquo's sons will be king easier.
Banquo more than himself by killing Duncan as Banquo's sons will be king easier.
Theme of EVIL - Macbeth is king and can command anyone - the murders, and it might make him feel less guilty.
Scene 2
Macbeth and Lady start to talk to each other about the future.
Lady is trying to comfort Mac like a woman should do.
Macbeth is saying he cant sleep - he is having terrible dreams. Macbeth envies the fact that Duncan is dead and he is in heaven and mac knows it will never happen to him even when he dies.
Scene 3
It is night which is linked to evil-dark, Macbeth wants three murders to get the job done properly. it is a metaphor for evil overcoming darkness as Banquo is good and is overpowered by the evil.
Scene 4
we know that Macbeth is prone to hallucinations and sees Banquo's ghost, it could be his guilt like the dagger was. he still feels guilt even though he did not do the murder only ordered it to be done.
we are starting to see how Macbeths mood can go from sane to completely insane and mad so fast.
Lady Macbeth now has no control over her husband and needs everyone to go so she can talk to him as he could go crazy any minute.
Scene 5
Hecate is saying she will deceive Macbeth more and they will confuse him more and sit back and watch his downfall. It shows how evil the witches are ass it is only for their amusement.

Scene 3
The porter speaks in prose and is telling us what has happened. the porter also tells some jokes as a break for the audience. the death of Duncan made the weather bad and has made a physical change to Scotland, and it is ironic that Macbeth says meh it was rough and he is referring to killing the king. it is the theme of sleep when Macbeth says that we need to wake everyone, and the murder unleashes everything bad. - - - Macbeth repeats the word stopped to make an impression, he also kills the guards as he knows that they would say that they were drugged.
