Catholic Baptsim
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life,
the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua) and
the door which gives access to the other sacraments
Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons
of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated
into the Church and made sharers in her mission

Who can Baptise
CCC1256 The ordinary ministers of Baptism are the bishop
and priest and, in the Latin Church, also the deacon.
In case of necessity, anyone, even a non-baptised person with the required intention, can baptise by using the
Trinitarian baptismal formula The intention required is to
will to do what the Church does when she baptises
The Church finds the reason for this possibility in the universal saving will of God and the necessity of Baptism for salvation.

Symbols
Water
Water is the Christian symbol of divine life and a sign of purity and cleansing from sin. God asks that the Child of God be “born again of the water and the Holy Spirit” (John 3:5) and
recalls the Gospel , “Unless a man is born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God” (John 1:3-6).
The water expresses the belief of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as adherents reject Original Sin and are able to achieve a state of purity after being cleansed which is symbolic of Jesus’ resurrection and the salvation He achieved for all humanity
