Interact club international project
Our interact club does an international project each year
usually entails donations to some kind of world wide charity
A decent amount of the members have not taken any steps to take initiative for recommending projects so I decided to step up
I am far more connected to world events and internet trends so I initially decided to donate to team trees/team seas
However, while in the process of figuring out how to send a check to team trees/seas, Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine
The horrors that were committed on the Ukrainian people made me take up the initiative once again to divert the donation intended for team trees/ seas to a organization helping people in Ukraine
The other group member of interact club looked to me for guidance as I was responsible for procuring the method we would donate to the charity
I brought two specific skills to the table
My connectedness and awareness of charity orginzations
being able to able to search for information on not only how to donate to the charities but to also which ones would be credible and okay for a school to donate
Virginia Tech's motto is "Ut Prosim" which means 'That I May Serve'. Share how you contribute to a community that is important to you. How long have you been involved? What have you learned and how would you like to share that with others at Virginia Tech?
Time spent with the Highlands-Cashiers Humane Society
Have been with volunteering at the humane society every two weeks for about 3 months
I have learned that you should never give up on anyone no.
I worked with trying to socialize with some of the older and more skittish cats. The older a cat gets the less likely they are to be adopted and can end up without a forever home.
Those odds are the very reason I try to help these cats become more comfortable with people so they can have the very best chance of getting a forever home
It can take a long time for some cats to even be comfortable with even just a persons presence, but that is no reason to give up on them, it just requires being patient and going at their own pace
