Integers, Positive times negative is always negative. - Coggle Diagram
Integers
Multiplication & Divison
Division
Step 1: Divide normaly
Multiplication
Step 1: Multiply normaly
Step 2: Identify the sign of the answer
See how many negative numbers are in the equation
If there is an odd amount of negative numbers, the answer = negative
If there is an even amount of negative numbers, the answer = positive
Example:
-/+ = (-)
(-) (-) = (+)
(+) (+) = (+)
Addition & Subtraction
Step 1: See if the Numbers have like or unlike signs
Like signs
Step 2: Since we have like signs, we will add the numbers
Ex: -6 + (-8)
6 + 8 = 14
-6 + (-8) = -14
The answer always has the same sign as the values
Ex: 9 + 4 =
They are both positive
9 + 4 = 13
Unlike signs
Step 2: Since we have unlike signs. we will subtract the numbers
Ex: 6 + (-8)
6 - 8 = -2
6 + (-8) = -2
The answer always has the sign of the bigger number
Ex: -9 + 4 =
9 is the bigger number
-9 + 4 = -5
Double Negatives = Add
Double Positive = Add
Plus VS Negative = Plus always wins
Positive and Negative Equations
Converting Positive and Negative Equations
Ex:
12
- 7
= 5
12
+ (-7)
= 5
In the first equation, we have
subtract positive
7, in the second equation, we have
add negative
seven.
To convert negative and positive equations, you turn the (+) into a (-) and turn the positive into a negative. The same applies for converting (-) into (+).
One step Equations & Inequalities
Positive times negative is always negative.
(-5)(3)= -15
(12)(-2)=-24
(9)(-9)= -81
