This poem talks about facing and dealing with AIDS all by himself, with no one to take care of him. In this poem, Thom Gunn uses a lot of “I”, “My”, and “Me”. This makes the man seem very lonely, facing the problem all by himself. This shows the human condition, where many of us are alone, and tend to face our problems all by ourselves with no one to help us.
Being human includes having times of loneliness and struggle, facing different emotions and insecurity that we try our best to hide from the rest of society in order to fit their expectations.
