Blame
Blame is tossed around frequently throughout the play, each character refusing to take full responsibility for the death of Eva smith
Sheila and Eric come to accept part of the blame for their wrongdoing however this stops at the generation gap where it has become too late for change to happen

Wealth
there is competition between Mr Birling and Gerald because they both want more successful and wealthy business.
There is a wealth divide between the Birling family + Gerland and Eva Smith. Eva smith is from a poor background, partly because she is a women.

The age gap shows where accountability stops and begins. Eric and Sheila being the youngest in the play, means they will be more understanding of modern day issues and feel remorse for Eva's death
