Secularism

A Brief History

Reformation Era Secularism: meaning separation of church and state; literally "not within the control of the Church" (Collins); as in, the church will no longer rule the state

Medieval Era: the church rules the state (theocracy); as in, the church teaches the morals

Contemporary Secularism: without God; the state rules the church (fundamentalist atheism); as in, the state teaches the morals

America was founded on the idea that government requires moral people; secular government, not a secular society (PragerU)

America as a society is increasingly embracing fundamentalist atheism which states that religion has no place in society or thought (FOCL)
