Writing: On page 12 it says "Early people who lived as hunters and nomads did not need written records" Also, they began to use records for business. (Steele 12) image

Architecture: On page 6 the text states "Two great rivers flow southward through the Middle East." Also, mesopotamia was the birthplace of writing!!! (Steele 6) image

Religion: Pages 14 state "The sumerians worshiped many gods and goddesses" Also, one of the gods called Enki is the god of water and wistim. (Steele 6) image

Government: On page 10 the text states "City-state rulers were honored with various titles such as en, ensi, or lugal." Also, some rulers became legandary for mixing myths into history. (Steele 10) image

Art: On page 28 the text states "They were molding clay into simple pots" Also, they invented the potter's wheel. (Steele 28) image

Ancient Egypt

Location: On page 8 the text said "The ancient Egyptians lived o a strip of land on either side of the nile." Also, the text states that in the "Red Land," small settlements are sported in wadis and oases, but most people live along the Nile River.(Hart 8) image

Writing: On page 34 the text states "Hieroglyphs were used on state monuments, temples, tombs, and religious papyri." Also, For important things such as letters and business contracts they used hieratic which is a fast written version of hieroglyphics.(Hart 34) image

Architecture: On page 20 the text states "The idea of this pyramid was to recreate the mound that had emerged out of the watery ground at the beginning of time." Also, the very first pyramid was built for a king's tomb. (Hart 20) image

Religion: On page 24 the text states "The egyptians worshiped hundreds of different gods and goddesses, and sometimes it is difficult to work out who was who" Also, the sun god was the dominate deity of egypt. (Hart 24) image

Government: On page 12 the text states "When people approached the king, they often kissed the ground at his feet." Also, they went to some what parties to give gifts to other countries. (Hart 12) image

Art: On page 46 the text states "All were painted in brilliant colors, and designed to impress foreign rulers." Also the text states that the inner courtyard would lead to where all the fancy people slept. (Hart 46) image

Location: The author wrote that "most of ancient lay within the borders of modern Iraq." Also, Mesopotamia included portions of the countries Turkey, Syria and Iran. (Steele 6) image

Ancient China

Government: On page 16 the text states that in 221 BC the chinese empire was formed. The text also states "The Qin soldiers defeated the last of their enemies and united the 'warring stars' under one leader, Zheng". Also Zheng took the title First Sovereign Qin Huangdi. image

Commerce (Trade): On page 58 the text says trade was popular during the Mongol or Yuan dynasty. It also says China controlled the whole silk road. Another thing the text says is "The Mongols ignored the opinions of chinese officials. image

Writing: On page 11 it said that the people believed when the orcal done cracked it was message from their ancestors. The oracle bone was a tortoise shell or ox bone. Also it states that "cracks were then read to discover the answer to the question to put to the ancestors" (Cotterell) download

Technology: On page 22 the text says inventions were carried along the silk road. It also says "Gunpowder changed the way wars were fought". China also encouraged the advance of science and technology. image

Religion: On page 18 the text states Gaozu led one of the peasant armies that overthrew the Qin dynasty. It also says "In later dynasties, a series of examinations took successful candids from their local districts. Another thing on page 18 is Qin Jun prosawaded the emperor to strengthen the great wall. image

Location: On page 10 the text states that they lived around the yellow river. It also says "The peasant farmers cultivated the land, took part in royal hunts, and served as foot soldiers in the army." Another thing the text says is the king possessed the ability to ask for their blessing. image

Art: On page 56 the text states that china has always been known for its popular arts and crafts. It also says "Chinese rulers controlled the supply of raw materials and ran government factories manned by skilled asians." It also says the peasants farmers were the most important people. image

Indus River Valley/Aryans

Location: The text states that around 5,000 years ago people developed along the Indus River. They did this because it was a big water source. The Indus River now covers modern day Pakistan. (Pentuce Hall: Writing studies) image

Writing: The writing can't be figured out. Over 400 symbols have been seen. No one can decipher them. (Pentuce Hall: Writing studies) image

Architecture/tech: The people in Indus Valley created well planned cities. They also deeply cared about hygiene. This was very advanced for their time. (Pentuce Hall: Writing studies) image

Religion: Most people practice Hinduism. The ancient Aryans, who invaded, practiced Brahmanism. It was polytheistic. (Pentuce Hall: Writing studies) image

Government: They helped the caste system become what it is today. A caste is where someone is born into a religion and they can't leave. They had 4 social classes called varnas. (Pentuce Hall: Writing studies) image
