Ancient China
Government: The text states that during the last 250 years of the Chinese empire, the throne was occupied by the Manchus. Also it states that some chinese emperor were scared that change could lead to a chinese rebellion. Also that the last rulers were enlightened and supported chinese culture.
Writing: On page 11, it said that the " used oracle bone to consult ancestral spirits on important matter." Also from important questions were answered from the cracks on the oracle bones. The Oracle bones were inscribed on ox bone and turtle shell. (Cotterell)
Technology:
Commerce (Trade) The author
says that trade flourished during the Yuan dynasty. This happened because of the silk road where There was no danger. They traded Silk, spices, tea, porcelain, and lacquerware. (Cotterell 58)
Location: O page 38 the text talks about two great rivers. These rivers are the yellow river and the Yangtze river. These two rivers helped grow china by producing fertile land. These rivers were also used to transport things downstream. (Cotterell)
Art: On page 56 the text states that china has always been renowned for its exquisite art. They used sophisticated techniques and mass produced them. These pieces of art were often made.bronze, jade silk, lacquer and porcelain.(Cotterell)
Religion: in the text it says that confucius believed society in his lifetime was going downhill. Confucius also believed that a good ruler should set by example. He created a new moral outlook that people still follow.
technology: The chinese made many inventions in their time. These inventions include a water powered blast furnace that helped with iron casting The invention produced a steady blast of heat and might have helped create the first steel. (Cotterell)
Mesopotamia
Location: In the text it said that the Greeks called the area of Mesopotamia which means "between the rivers." Also in the text it states that the "most of ancient Mesopotamia lay within the borders of modern Iraq." (Steele 6)
writing:
On page 10 it said "Sumerians rulers enjoyed great power..." Another example they had people make sculptures and paintings of them.
Architecture: On page 24 it chows architecture and explains it lasting symbol of Ancient Mesopotamia is the Ziggurat. Also on page 24 it says that ziggurats looked like stepped pyramids.
religion: On page 14 it said that "The Sumerians worshiped many gods and goddesses." Also on page 14 it said The Stars were the cows of sin or Nanna. (Steele 14)
Government: The Author wrote " Sumerian rulers enjoyed great power, and fame and deeds were recommended for centuries. on page 10 it says "Mighty rulers were expected to brave military commanders and builders of great cities.
Art: On page 28 it said that they molded clay into pots. Also on page 28 it said they "invented potter's wheel, which made pottery production more efficient. (Steele 28)
Ancient egypt
location: In the text it said In Ancient Egypt "desert covers more than 90 percent of Egypt " this was called the "red land." Also the texts state s that for thousands of years the population of Egypt on it's fertile agricultural sources. (Hartt 8)
writing: On page 32 it says "Scribes were near the top of the egyptian society" It says that because not very many people new how to scribe. Another example is that they used papyrus as there paper.
architecture: On page 20 the text said that " the first pyramids was built as the burial place of king djoser in c.2650 bce by his gifted architect. Also in the text it said rich offerings buried with the kings were robbed of their precious contents. (Hart 20)
religion: On page 24 it said that " the Egyptians worshiped hundreds of gods and goddess." Also on page 24 the text said overall the sun god was the most dominate diedy in egyptian religion
government: In the text it said " the king was not the most powerful and important man in Egypt- he was thought to be a god. he was known as a pharaoh." Also in the text it said that the queen of egypt was a goddess but was known as Great royal. (hart 10)
art
On page 24 it said "The egyptians worshiped hundreds of gods and goddesses." Another example is they had many gods that represented animals. (Hart 24)
Indus River Valley/Aryans
location: in the text it said that Around 5,000 years ago, a civilization developed along the Indus River alluvial plain. The author wrote that the Indus River covers most of Pakistan and a bit of afghanistan. in the text it said that indus river valley has really rich soil and is best for agriculture.
writing: In the Text it said that archaeologists still are trying to decipher their writing. Also in the text it said that over 400 symbols are uncovered, but not all are deciphered. The text states that since we have not fully deciphered the script we can't get much insight on how they lived.
architecture/tech; The text says that the people of the indus river valley made some of the worlds first sanitation systems, and made wells. The text also states " The advanced architecture and construction dockyards, garanies, warhouses, brick platforms, and wide protective walls." The text also said that the city had wide, straight, roads.
religion: in the text it said that the indus people were heavily polytheistic. The text states that they were in late developed hinduism. The texts also says that the sacred text was vedas.
government:In the text, it said "For example, one Aryan influence on modern day India was the development of the castle system. A caste is a social group in which people are born and they can't change" It also says that they were 4 social classes called varnas.
