Unit Two: Ancient Civilizations
Mesopotamia
Location: In the text it said that "the ancient Greeks called it Mesopotamia, Meaning between rivers." Mesopotamia is now the location of modern day Iraq. (Steele 6)
Writing: On page 12 it tells us how they wrote.They wrote on clay tablets.They use a wood stick to write symbols that have different meanings.They also had some symbols that mean full words.
Architecture: In Ancient Mesopotamia they have a very big temple that a priest that went up to the top and gave gifts to the gods.The temple was called the Ziggurat it was massive.
Religion: On page 14 it said the Babylonians worshiped the goddess Ishtar and for there main god they worshiped Marduk.That is the main god they worshiped.
Government: On page 10 it said "City-state rulers were honored" . They had a ruler such as Gilgamesh of Uruk. They have lots of clay models of Gods
Art: On page 46 it tells you what the art meant and how and were it was made.There was a long thrown room witch had hunting and battle scenes.
Ancient Egypt
Location: On page 8 it said that since desert covered 90 percent of Egypt, people lived on the banks of the Nile River.
Also, in the text it said that " when the Nile water subsided, the farmers went to work sowing barley and emmer wheat.

Writing: In the text it talks about how scribes had to be experts at writing hieroglyphs. On page 34 it tells me that they had about 700 different sings.

Architecture: On page 20 it says the first pyramid was built as the burial place of the King Djoser. In the text it also talks about all the different parts of the pyramids.
Religion: On page 24 it said that the Egyptians worshiped hundreds of gods and it could be hard to figure out how one was.It also said that each of the 42 different administrative districts had its own god, and there were many other besides.

Government:In the text it talks about how the King was not only the most powerful he was thought to be a god.On page 10 it talks about how the word Pharaoh was a respectful way of referring to the king by describing him as "great house"(Hart).
Art: In the text it tells me that you can see the glint of gold everywhere in Egyptian jewelry. On page 56 it tells me that they import stones from mines.(Hart)
Ancient china
Religion: On page 12 it talks about how Confucius believed that the early years of the Zhou dynasty were golden. In his lifetime Confucius saw only growing disorder. (Cotterell)
government: It said that the Shang kings ruled the Chinese empires for a while, about 1650-1027 B.C It also tells me that the kings/emperors were decided with the faite of a mandate of heaven creating dynasties. ( Cottwell 16)
Art: On page 56 it said "China has always been Renowned for its exquisite arts and crafts." Also it says the major export commodity is Chinese bronze, Jade, silk, Lacquer, and porcelain.
Writing: On page 11 it said the Shang kings used oracle bones to answer qusteans about important matters. Also it states " the cracks were then read to discover the answer to a question put the ancestors. "As a result people would write down question and answer on the orical bones.(Cotterell)
Technology: In the text it says " THrough its imperial history, emperor engorged the development of science and technology and for centuries china led other nations in these areas.'' It also talks about that a lot of those inventions that they made were cared on the silk road. It also says " Other Chinese inventions that made the world a different place were paper,money,clockwork,silk,porcelain,fireworks,kits,umbrellas,and the wheelbarrow (Cottrell 22)
Trade: On page 58 the text says that "A series of trade results that trade routes that ran from northern china across Asia." Also in the text it states that "the mongol were subject to heavy taxe." As a result they made trades on the silk road. (Cotterell)

tech: People within the Indus valley they created a well planed city. This was a very advanced time. In the text it talks about how they have wide and straight :
