Ancient Civilization
Ancient china
Government: On page 16 it says that Zheng was the first Chinese emperor. It also says that he thought he was going to be immortal. I know this because when he was dying he put thousands of terracotta soldiers. (Cotterell)
Technology: On page 22 it says that "Some of the world's greatest inventions came from China. Also, it says that "Throughout its imperial history, emperors encouraged the development of science and technology, and for centuries China led other nations in these areas" I know this because paper and printing dramatically improved communications, and gunpowder changed the way which battles were fought. (Cotterell)
Writing: On page 11, it said that the people believed when the oracle bone cracked it was a message from their ancestors. The oracle bone was a tortoise shell oxbone. Also, it states that "cracks were then read to discover the answer to a question put to the ancestors." (Cotterell)
Art: On page 56 it said that " China has always been renowned for its exquisite arts and crafts." China has many ancient artifacts from their culture like sculptures, statues, and paintings, but one of the most famous is the Terracotta soldiers that surround Emperor Qin's Tomb. Also it says, in China, commodities form luxury goods like bronze, jade, silk, and many others. (Cotterell)
Commerce (Trade): .On page 58, it said, "International trade thrived because caravans could travel without danger." It also says, the Mongol emperors controlled the entire length of the Silk Road. I know this because the Mongols allowed merchants to trade freely throughout the vast empire. (Cotterell)
Location: In the text it says that China is dominated by two rivers, The Yellow River and The Yangzi River. I know this because China has a bunch of rivers all around the country. (Cotterell 38)
Religion: On page 12, it said that "He believed that family related ships should be governed by mutual respect". Also, the text said, "he encouraged ancestor worship because it strengthened family loyalties." The author wrote "he summed up his philosophy." (Cotterel)
